Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

The law requires sex offenders to provide their information to the State Police Department of the county they are currently living in. Their information is then recorded in the state and national sex offender registry to help increase public safety and awareness. A person is categorized as a sex offender if he/she has been found guilty of a sex offense such as rape, prostitution, and child pornography. Visiting will enable you to locate sex offenders residing in Kanawha County.

Take note that the information cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate since some offenders fail to update their registration. Thus, do not be surprised if you should encounter records listing last known addresses.

Bail and Bondsman

A pretrial inmate is allowed to stay out of jail as long as bail has been posted. Bail is the money lodged with the court to guarantee the inmate’s return to court once the trial starts. If he fails to appear as promised, the money is forfeited.

A pretrial inmate who cannot afford to post bail can still get released from jail with the help of a bondsman. The bondsman can sign a bond with the court guaranteeing the defendant’s fulfillment of all of his court obligations. If he doesn’t, it will be the bondsman’s responsibility to pay the entire bond amount. To hire a bondsman, you will need to pay him 10% of the bail amount. This cannot be refunded.
