Established in 1857, Jack County’s population was 9,044 as of the 2010 census. The county seat and largest community is Jacksboro and the county got its name from two brothers who were soldiers in Texas Revolution, Patrick Churchill Jack and William Houston Jack.
The county has a total area of 920 square miles and one prominent resident was Edith Wilmans, who was the first woman to elected to the Texas State Legislature. While she was living there, she practiced law and raised cattle and goats on her farm.
