Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the process that allows a charged individual to obtain his release from custody while awaiting his/her trial by paying a set amount of money to the court. If the defendant misses a court appearance, the money is forfeited.

If the defendant does not have enough money to post bail, a bondsman can be hired to do it on his behalf. A bondsman will typically charge 10% of the bond amount as his fee. This is not refundable.
