Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

The definition of a sex offender is a person with a conviction for a sex offense such as rape, prostitution, and child pornography. Federal law requires such an offender to be registered in the state sex offender database and the national sex offender database. In Union County, you can search for sex offenders living in the area by visiting the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry. Because not all offenders obey the registration law, some records you view may only list last known addresses.

Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the money or property pledged to the court in order for a defendant to gain freedom while awaiting trial. This pledge will be used to ensure that the defendant attends all of his scheduled court appearances. The court will issue a refund after the trial minus some court fees. Failure to appear in court, however, will mean forfeiting the bail.

A defendant who cannot afford bail can still get released if he uses the services of a bail bondsman. A bail bondsman acts as a surety for a non-refundable fee. The cost is usually 10% of the bail amount.
