The County Prothonotary Office is the civil division of the Court of Common Pleas, responsible for recording and keeping all records, including custody, protection from abuse, divorce, case dockets, property disputes, judgments, and other civil division matters of the court. Besides, the administrative duties of the Prothonotary Office include attending court proceedings, maintaining the civil caseload for the court system, operating and maintaining the civil division, attending all civil court proceedings, swearing in witnesses and reading verdicts, preparing budget materials annually, reconciling and maintaining escrow accounts and checking accounts for filing fees and draft payments and reviewing/implementing new policies. The Greene County Register and Recorder’s Office is the official storage and record manager for all documents relating to wills, estates as well as all real estate transactions. The Recorder of Deeds Office is responsible for accurately recording all documents pertaining to land and property transactions as well as Military discharges. Additionally, the Office of the Recorder of Deeds records, deeds, easements, land plans, mortgages, releases, restrictions, road right-of-ways, and surveys. Besides, the Recorder of Deeds Office provides services such, notary publics, district justices, mine subsidence maps and highway maps. On the other hand, the Register of Wills Office is responsible for documentation of all papers in reference to the probate of wills and estates and all other related documents. The Office also collects Pennsylvania Inheritance Taxes as well as Realty Transfer Taxes.
