Bail and Bondsman
The state of Oregon allows a pretrial inmate to only pay 10% of the total bail amount (called security) before granting the inmate temporary release from jail. Security and bail act as collateral to back up the defendant’s promise to return to court when the trial starts.

If the judge is opposed to granting release on personal recognizance or conditional release, a defendant will be required to post bail. The bail amount will be determined by the defendant’s criminal record, the gravity of the crime, and his ties to the community. Take note that bail amount varies. If charged with drug possession, you may only get bail set at $10,000. However, you may get a $75,000 bail for a sex offense.

Oregon is one of only four states – Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin – that does not allow the practice of commercial bail bonding. In fact, the state’s justice department is the one acting as a bail bond agency allowing defendants to only post 10% of the bail amount.
