Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

A sex offender is defined as a person with a conviction for an offense involving sexual misconduct such as sexual assault, prostitution, and sex trafficking. This type of offender is required by law to provide their information for filing in the state sex offender database and the national sex offender database. Residents of Warren County can locate sex offenders in their neighborhood by visiting the Sheriff’s Alert page. It’s important to keep in mind that you may view some records that only show last known addresses. This is because not all offenders comply with the law.

Bail and Bail Bondsman

The court requires collateral (money, property, or bond) before it will allow a defendant to be released from custody while awaiting trial. This collateral is called bail and will be used to ensure the defendant’s appearance at his trial. The bail will be refunded to the defendant after the trial minus a 3% administrative fee. The defendant loses this collateral if he misses a court appearance. A warrant will also be issued for his arrest. If the defendant cannot post bail, he will have to remain in jail as long as the case is being tried in court.

To pay bail, you must provide the exact amount because no change will be given. If necessary, different types of money can be used in one transaction. The acceptable forms of money are as follows:

  • US Cash
  • Cashier’s Check (no greater than bail amount)
  • Bank or Western Union money order (multiple orders no greater than $1000)
  • Credit card (8% processing fee)
  • Debit card

Some defendants who cannot afford bail can pay a bond agent a certain fee so that the agent will post bail on his behalf. Take note that the bond fee is non-refundable. The New York State Insurance Department regulates the bail industry including the fees which are set in a tiered system. To calculate the fee, check out the formula provided below:

A $200 bond or less costs a fee of $10
A $3000 bond or less costs a fee equal to 10% of the bond
If the bond amount is between $3001 and $10000, the fee is equal to 10% for the $3000 of the amount and the rest has a 8% fee.
If the bond is set higher than $10,000, the fee is calculated in the following manner: the first $3000 has a 10% fee + the amount between $3000 and $10000 has a fee of 8% + the rest has a fee of $6%.

    Here’s an example:
    A bond set at $15,000 has a $1,160 fee that you get by following this equation: $3,000*10% + $7,000*8% + $5,000*6%.
