Sex Offender Search & Lookup:
A sex crime is an illegal act involving sexual misconduct such as rape, incest, and child pornography. A person who has been convicted of this type of crime is considered a sex offender. According to federal law, this kind of offender must have his information filed in the state sex offender registry and the national sex offender database in order to increase public safety and awareness. Residents in St. Lawrence County can locate sex offenders by visiting the county’s Sheriff Alert page. The information within the database cannot be guaranteed as 100% accurate and complete because not all offenders register their information. As such, you may view records that only show last known addresses.
Bail and Bail Bondsman
Bail is the money paid to the court in exchange for a defendant’s temporary release from jail while awaiting trial. This money will be used to guarantee the defendant’s cooperation in fulfilling his court obligations while he is out of jail. The money will be refunded to him once the trial is over or the case is dismissed. A 3% administrative fee will be deducted. Failure to appear in court will result in the defendant forfeiting the money and getting a warrant issued for his arrest. A defendant who cannot post bail will have to remain in jail until he is released or the case is dismissed.
Bail can be paid using various modes of payment in one transaction. Because the courts in New York will not provide any change, it is important that payment be made in the exact amount. The acceptable modes of payment are:
A bond agent can secure the release of a defendant who cannot afford the bail in exchange for a non-refundable fee. In New York, bond agents are monitored by the New York State Insurance Department. Their fees are set in a tiered system. To get the fee that a bond agent will charge, you can use the system below.
For a bond of $200 or less, you must pay $10.
For a bond of $3000 or less, you must pay 10% of the bail amount.
For a bond between $3001 and $1000, you must pay 10% of the first $3000 and 8% for the remaining amount.
For a bond of more than $10000, you must pay 10% of the first $3000, 8% of the amount falling between $3000-$10000, and 6% of the rest.
For example, a bond of $15000 should be computed this way:
(10% x $3000)+(8% x $7000)+(6% x $5000) = $1160.
