The Minnesota Correctional Facility–Red Wing (MCF-RW) is a juvenile residential facility operated by the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Opened in 1889, Red Wing Correctional Facility is a minimum juvenile prison located in Red Wing, Minnesota. The prison can house 219 juvenile males.

Saturday, 3:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Visitation Policies:

  1. All visits must be scheduled. You can schedule a visiting appointment by calling the facility, during visiting hours, and at least 24 hours in advance.
  2. All visits are limited to one hour in duration, and extended visits are not able to be offered at this time due to the need for social distancing in the visiting rooms.
  3. All visitors must be screened, including temperature checks. If the temperature check is 100.0 degrees or higher, the visit cannot occur.
  4. Barrier masks are required for all visitors over the age of 2.
  5. Visits will take place with social distancing protocols in place, including staying 6 feet apart at all times. Physical contact is not permitted during any portion of the visit.
  6. Activities for children in the visiting room will be limited to best maintain social distancing and limit touching of surfaces in an effort to reduce exposure to COVID-19.
  7. Neither incarcerated individuals nor visitors are not allowed to bring any items in or out of the visiting room without staff approval.
  8. Visits are held in the area assigned by the visiting room officer. Visitors and incarcerated individuals may not choose their seating area. The visitor(s) and the person they are visiting must sit across the aisle from each other. No one may exchange seats or move any furniture without the approval of visiting staff.
  9. Physical contact is not permitted at any time during the visit.
  10. Everyone must sit in a manner such that the officer’s view is not blocked. Feet must remain on the floor. Everyone must sit in an upright position with hands in full view. The incarcerated person and visitor’s legs/feet may not touch or be intertwined with each other.
  11. Incarcerated individuals and visitors are responsible for providing supervision of the minor visitor(s). All children must remain in the incarcerated person’s assigned area. It is the responsibility of the incarcerated person and the adult visitor to care for the child at all times.
  12. Physical discipline of children, of any kind, is not allowed in the visiting room or anywhere on the facility grounds. In the event this happens, the visit will be terminated, a formal report will be written, and the watch commander and proper authorities will be notified.
  13. Children are not permitted to sit beside the incarcerated person or in their lap during safe visiting. The safe visiting no contact rule applies to minor visitors – an incarcerated person may not touch a child while the child is sitting on the adult visitor’s lap.
  14. Children are not allowed to play on the floor or climb on the furniture. No play fighting or wrestling is allowed. Children may not be tossed, thrown, or held above the shoulders.
  15. All visitors who are 18 years old or older shall be required to show a picture identification each time they visit. The forms of identification accepted by the MNDOC are – valid driver’s license from the state of residence, valid state photo identification card from the state of residence, valid military photo identification card, and valid passport.
