Christian County is located in the state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1797 and named after Colonel William Christian, a native of Augusta County, Virginia, and a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Hopkinsville is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 73,955 people and a total area of 724 square miles, of which 6.5 square miles is water and 718 square miles is land, making it the second-largest county by area in Kentucky. Christian County borders the following counties: Hopkins County to the north; Muhlenberg County to the northeast; Todd County to the east; Montgomery County, Tennessee, to the southeast; Stewart County, Tennessee, to the southwest; Trigg County to the west; and Caldwell County to the northwest.
Mike Kem is the Christian County Clerk; he was elected to the position in 1998 and is currently serving his third term in office, as of 2015. The county clerk is charged with numerous and varied duties, which include doing clerical duties of the fiscal court, recording and keeping records of various legal documents, registering licenses for motor vehicles, voter registration, election duties and tax duties.
