Sex Offender Search and Lookup:

A person is categorized as a sex offender if he has been found guilty of committing or attempting to commit a crime involving sex such as rape, sex trafficking, and child pornography. All sex offenders are ordered by federal law to submit their information to local law enforcement so that it may be entered into the sex offender registries operated by the state and the US Department of Justice. Anyone can access these databases to help promote public safety and awareness. If you want to know if sex offenders are currently residing near you in Kentucky, you can use the state’s database here.

It is important to bear in mind that not all registrations are updated properly due to the failure of some sex offenders in following the law. You may get search results showing last known addresses or incomplete addresses such as just a listing of the block where an offender resides in.

Bail and Bondsman

When an individual is charged with a crime, he may be allowed to get out of custody/jail and stay free until the trial begins through bail. To secure his release, a defendant must deposit or promise money or a form of property to the court. This is part of his assurance to the court that he will show up in court when the trial begins. Failure to do so will mean the forfeiture of the money or property.

Anyone can hire a bondsman if he does not have enough money to post bail on his own. As a surety, the bondsman will make the promise to the court that he will pay the bail amount on behalf of the accused if he fails to appear before the court. The bondsman charges a fee, normally 10% of the bail amount, and it is non-refundable.

In Kentucky, commercial bail bonding is illegal. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). A bondsman from another state can only apprehend a fugitive in Kentucky if he has a warrant. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
