Sex Offender Search and Lookup:
A person who has been convicted of a sex crime is called a sex offender. The type of offenses classified as a sex crime may differ due to state laws. However, there are some that are widely accepted as such. These include prostitution, rape, sexual assault, and child molestation. Federal law states that all sex offenders must register their information in the state and national sex offender databases. These systems are used to promote public awareness and safety. Residents of Kentucky can use this website to locate any sex offenders living in the area.
Please bear in mind that not all sex offenders update their registration. You may get search results that list the last known addresses of offenders. In some cases, you may encounter an incomplete address listing just the block where an offender’s house is located.
Bail and Bondsman
When the court permits an accused person to be freed from jail while his trial hasn’t started yet provided that he promises to show up at his scheduled court dates, this is called bail. For certain crimes, the defendant may be asked to also put down money or property as an added insurance or guarantee. He loses the money or property if he doesn’t show up as promised.
The services of a bondsman is needed if the accused is unable to come up with the money to pledge to the court. A bondsman is an individual who, for a fee, will be the one to guarantee payment if the defendant fails to appear in court. His fee is usually set at 10% of the bail amount and it is non-refundable.
In Kentucky, commercial bail bond businesses are illegal. Ky. Stat. § 431.510 (outlawing commercial bail bond industry); see Stephens v. Bonding Assoc. of Kentucky, 538 S.W.2d 580 (Ky 1976) (upholding statute). To arrest a bail jumper who has fled to Kentucky, the law requires a bondsman from out of state to get a warrant first. Ky. Rev. Stat. § 440.270.
