Bail and Bondsman

The temporary release of a pretrial inmate is granted by the court once bail has been posted. Bail the pledge of money or property made to the court which will serve as collateral to guarantee the defendant’s return for his trial. If the inmate misses a court date, the money is forfeited.

A defendant who has money problems may not be able to post bail on his own. For 10% of the bail amount, he can pay a bondsman to do so on his behalf. A bondsman’s fee, however, is not refundable no matter what the outcome of the case is.
