Important Jail Policies and Procedures

Inmates should make a list of visitors they like to see and inform the deputy about it. Inmates are restricted to two (2) adult visitors or one (1) adult and one (1) child. The age of the child must be 17 years of age or less at the time in the visitation room. The Forsyth County Jail only allows video visitation. Visitations are limited to 30 minutes. Cell phones, purses, diaper bags, food, drinks, etc. aren’t allowed in the video visitation room. Visitors wearing revealing, indecent, inappropriate attire won’t be allowed to visit. Visitors displaying erratic/unruly behavior will be barred from entering the visitation room.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prevents/discovers commission of crime; apprehends arrests, and processes criminals, fugitives and offenders; conducts preliminary investigations; interviews victims, complainants and witnesses and takes statements; gathers information and evidence; and photographs and secures crime scenes.
  • Provides traffic control and police protection for events such as parades, processions, funerals, ball games, and school crossings; provides security/escort services to individuals, businesses, or others as appropriate; participates in court activities; testifies in judicial proceedings and transports prisoners, victims, witnesses, members of the general public, suspects, or other individuals as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6 months previous experience and/or training in law enforcement or as an officer in a corrections/detention facility
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and must pass and maintain current Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements as a Peace Officer

    Sex Offender Search and Lookup

    A person convicted of sex-related crimes such as rape, prostitution, sexual assault, child pornography, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse is a sex offender. Sex offenders are required to get registered with the state or county’s sex offender register. Those who don’t register with the state may be charged with a felony.

    Bail and Bondsman

    There are four (4) ways to bond someone out of jail. You will need to come to the Forsyth County Jail to complete the full process of bonding an inmate. Once you enter the main lobby at the Veterans Memorial intersection walks straight back to the back of the lobby. Walk around the corner to the window and someone will assist you.

    The four (4) ways to bond someone out of jail are:

  • Approved Bonding Companies – Visit our Jail Bonds Webpage to see approved Bonding Companies. There is also a large screen mounted at the back of the jail lobby that displays approved bonding agencies. Select one of the agencies and contact the bonding company of your choice. A representative from the company will meet you in the jail lobby and guide you through the process. Bonding companies are allowed by law to charge up to 15% of the total bond amount, for their fee.
  • Pay with Cash – The Forsyth County Jail accepts cash only. Money orders, business checks, and personal checks are not accepted at the Forsyth County Jail.
  • Property Bonds – For real property within Forsyth County, bring the property deed and most recent paid property tax bill to the Forsyth County Jail. (Person(s) listed on the deed must be present with a State issued I.D., AND taxes must be paid in full & up to date, to be used for bonding process.) Only real property will be used and the appraised tax value is all that will be considered chattel, such as a mobile home, will be deducted from the overall assessment. The value of unencumbered equity must be double the price of the bond to be accepted.

    If you reside outside of Forsyth County, you may use your property, but you will need to contact your local Sheriff’s Office. They will contact the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for our requirements, process the bond, and then give you a sealed envelope. DO NOT open the envelope. It must be sealed for us to accept the bond.

  • Pay Online or by Phone – Visit Cash Bonds Online and follow the prompts. You can also contact them by calling 888-726-6301. A credit card cannot be used if the bond amount exceeds $7,000.
