Important Jail Policies and Procedures

The Chattooga County Jail offers video visitations to inmates. All visitors must be on the inmate’s approved visitation list. Visitors, who are on Probation or Parole, are not eligible to visit inmates in this facility. Inmates are allowed a maximum of three visitors during each visitation per day. Visitations are limited to 20 minutes. Children and individuals under 18 years of age are not permitted to visit inmates. All visitors must register using a state issued photo ID before visiting an inmate. No personal items such as cell phones, keys, purses, etc are allowed in the visitation lobby. All visitors will be searched prior to the visit. All visitations will be recorded and monitored.

Sending Funds To Inmates

Visitors can send money to inmates at this facility through cash or money orders. Money orders must include the inmate’s ID number.

Sex Offender Search and Lookup

Any person convicted of sex-related crimes such as rape, prostitution, sexual assault, child pornography, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse is a sex offender. Sex offenders are required to get registered with the state or county’s sex offender register. Those who don’t register with the state may be charged with a felony.

Bail and Bondsman

Property Bonds

The private property being offered as guarantee for the principal to appear in court MUST be located in Chattooga County Georgia. Every individual listed on the warranty deed or tax receipt must be present to sign the related documents. The documents required for acceptance are: 1) Warranty Deed and / or CURRENT Tax Bill; 2) A Photo ID issued by a government entity. ALL individuals listed on the warranty deed or tax receipt must present these documents at the Chattooga County Jail.

Property owners will be allowed to sign bonds in amounts up to 40% of the assessed value of the property. Property owners must show proof of the disposition of prior bonds signed in order to use the same property for security on future bonds to be signed.
Property owners cannot receive payment for signing a bond. This is a violation of Georgia law and all violators will be prosecuted.

A fee of $20.00 will be paid to the Chattooga County Jail as allowed by Georgia law for all bonds signed. This fee must be paid by cash or money order only. Exact change is required for this fee. The Jail cannot make change.

Professional Bonds

A professional bond is posted by a company operating as a Professional Bonding Company in Chattooga County. The company must be registered and authorized by the Sheriff’s Office of Chattooga County. Any company is subject to being suspended from operation by the Sheriff.

Individuals hiring a bonding company pay a fee to the bonding company for their services. Georgia law allows a professional bonding company to charge up to 12% for bonds no more than $10,000.00 and up to 15% for bonds in excess of $10,000.00. This non-refundable fee is above the actual costs associated with “posting” the bond. A $20.00 handling fee will be charged on all bonds signed in this facility. This fee must be paid by cash or money order only.

The following professional bonding companies are the only bonding companies authorized to sign bonds at the Chattooga County Jail. Employees of the Chattooga County Jail cannot and will not recommend a bonding company.

Out Of County (Transfer) Property Bonds

An “Out of County” or “Transfer” property bond is like the typical property bond with the exception of some requirements. The property being offered as a guarantee of the principal’s appearance is located outside of Chattooga County. In this case, the bond has to be prepared by the Sheriff of the county where the property is located. You will need to contact the Sheriff’s Office of that county for their requirements. Bonds from a licensed bonding company of another county are not acceptable.
