The county’s population based on what was gathered by the census in 2010 is 415,057 and was founded in 1850. The county seat is called Salinas and it is located at the Pacific coast part of California. The county is named after Monterey Bay, which is named from a Spanish portmanteau of monte (“hill”) and rey (“king”) .
