The dogs were in good health, well fed, had clean water, and were being provided adequate shelter. We did not observe any injuries or signs of abuse that would legally allow us to remove the dogs from the home at that time. This investigation is on-going.

Scottsdale detectives, accompanied by an Arizona Humane Society Animal Cruelty Investigators, contacted the dog owner a second time to check the welfare of the animals. The dog owner provided the detectives access to the dogs and his home.

Yesterday, a search warrant was drafted and submitted to the Maricopa County Superior Court to further the investigation. The search warrant to seize the animals was denied due to the lack of probable cause.

The Arizona Humane Society and Maricopa County Animal Care and Control responded to investigate as well and thus far all 3 agencies concluded there is no cause by law to remove the pets or arrest their owner.

The officers spoke with the pet owner and were able to see the dogs personally and determine that they are, in fact, in good health and showed no signs of abuse.

The officers met with the reporting parties and viewed the entire 1 minute, 11 second cell phone video, 12 seconds of which was later posted to social media. The video does not clearly depict animal cruelty or abuse.
